Restriction on Unintentional License Purchases in WorkSuite, MicroStation, and OpenFlow Master

Problem Description:
Currently, in WorkSuite, MicroStation, and OpenFlow Master, any user within an organization or company can activate an additional license when the maximum number of available network licenses is reached. This can lead to unintentional purchases or unauthorized activations, affecting cost control and efficient license management.

Enhancement Request:
A restriction mechanism needs to be implemented to prevent automatic activation of additional licenses by non-administrative users. We propose two possible solutions:

1. Blocking unauthorized license purchases and activations: Only administrators should have the ability to approve the activation of new licenses.

2. Dual approval system: If an additional license is required, a dual-validation system should be implemented, where the request must go through an approval process before activation is completed.

Justification:

• Prevent unexpected costs due to uncontrolled activations within any organization or company.

• Improve license management and optimize the use of available resources.

• Maintain centralized and secure control over software access and activations.

Since it is currently not possible to restrict this configuration, we request that this functionality be considered in future updates to Bentley’s licensing system.
